Vacancy Technical Manager O/B
We are looking for a Technical Manager to join our team on board our newly built barges. This summer we are entering the engineering phase of this new project, and from 2026 these barges will be rented out as stationary accommodation vessels for various commercial projects.
Project location | fulltime | a.s.a.p.
Initially, you will work with the project team from our office in Leeuwarden, NL. The barges will be rented in the Netherlands and possibly abroad. Therefore, we prefer that you are willing to live on board, at least during rental periods.
In this role, you will be the face of Slaapschepen, responsible for the nautical and technical operations on board and serving as the first point of contact for visitors, suppliers, and crew. You will regularly work with our technical department and internal or external project managers.
Who we are
Slaapschepen organises temporary project accommodation on board ships, from initial request to implementation on site. We take care of the entire process: from design and operational management to daily coordination. We remain involved throughout the stay and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Wherever there is water, we can quickly and efficiently realise suitable accommodation solutions.
As an organisation, we are growing and have ambitious plans. This means that, in addition to your daily work, you may also be asked to participate in (change) projects. The atmosphere is informal, open and entrepreneurial. You shape your role independently and work within a close-knit team that values decisiveness and ownership.
What you will do
As Technical Manager, you ensure that the ship is safe, visually well-maintained, and fully operational for the crew and guests on board. Your responsibilities, amongst other, include:
- Keeping the ship in good condition.
- Performing minor technical repairs and maintenance.
- Carrying out weekly maintenance inspections.
- Monitoring and maintaining tank levels, such as diesel and water tanks.
- Pumping out wastewater.
- Keeping technical areas clean.
- Maintaining the ship’s exterior.
- Performing painting tasks.
- Conducting evacuation drills.
- Managing and updating certificates and documentation.
Your profile
With your nautical background, you know your way around a ship! You are technically skilled or have proven technical insight and a flexible, solution-oriented attitude. Because of the contact with residents, crew, and external parties, we need a socially skilled manager who serves as the central point of contact on board. You also recognize what needs to be done and can set the right priorities within your work. You bring:
- MBO working and thinking level (secondary vocational education).
- Nautical knowledge.
- Technical knowledge of (river) ships.
- Ability to independently perform (small) maintenance.
- Willingness to live on board during the contract period.
- Proficiency in Dutch and/or English, spoken and written.
What we offer
We offer you a 7-month contract with the possibility of extension. In addition, we provide the following:
- A gross salary between €2,711.43 and €3,400.29 based on 40 hours, depending on knowledge and experience.
- A 40-hour workweek.
- 25 vacation days per year on a full-time basis.
- A contribution scheme of 10% on top of your gross monthly salary, to save for a pension fund.
- 8% holiday allowance.
- A bonus scheme.
- Travel allowance of €0.23 per kilometer for commuting.
- Phone subscription and (if necessary) laptop.
- A yearly personal development budget of €1,500 plus an additional €1,000 after 1 year of employment.
- A net contribution for sports activities.
- A versatile position within a pleasant working environment, with room for your own input.
- Regular team outings.
